Walgreens Corporate Headquarters – Deerfield, Illinois
Walgreens looked to convert an all-electric building to gas heating and chose Edwards Engineering (EEI) to deliver for them. Nicor brought a new gas line, underground, from the street to near the building and installed a new gas meter. While this was taking place, EEI installed a new central hot water heating (boiler) plant inside. When Nicor was finished, EEI installed a new gas line from the meter, underground to the side of the building, up the outside wall, across the roof, and then down through the roof to the new boilers below.
All of the building’s air handling units were then retrofitted with hot water heating coils. New hot water heating piping was run from the boilers to the new coils. New supply and return ductwork was installed in the mechanical rooms for the air handling units and wrapped in insulation.
Walgreens was so satisfied with the project, and the performance of EEI’s personnel, that they recently awarded Edwards Engineering with the project to add perimeter heating to the building.
